Living in Jacksonville Beach: Honoring the Coast Guard

Those who live in Jacksonville Beach know that the coast is a big part of what makes the area “tick.” From getting out on the water in a kayak to sailing, from fishing to just enjoying the surf, the coast line is a part of what’s great about living in Jacksonville Beach.

And, of course, that coast line needs to be protected: enter the Coast Guard:

(source)JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The U.S. Navy League will be hosting a Coast Guard Appreciation Day April 26 at Bings Landing Preserve adjacent the Washington Oaks State Park in Palm Coast, Fla., between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The public is welcome to come an honor the men and women of the Coast Guard who serve Northeast Florida and see first hand some of the tools and methods they use to complete their many missions. There will be a counter-narcotics demonstration, an aids to navigation ship on display, a demonstration by a Coast Guard bomb-dog team, and a helicopter rescue demonstration.

Food, drinks, and numerous other activities and displays will be available through out the day. Coast Guard merchandise will also be available with all proceeds going to benefit the Northeast Florida Chapter of the Chief Petty Officer’s Association. The CPOA’s mission is to support Coast Guard men and women and their families in times of need.

Whether you go to offer support or just to learn a bit more about what the Coast Guard does, it’s worth it to take some time out to of your day to be there to honor them. Here’s hoping that you never need to call on the Coast Guard, but just in case you do. . .
