Want to Share Your First Coast Experience?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

There’s a good reason why people who have recently moved to Florida’s First Coast are likely to want to talk over their choices and all of the great things that the area has to offer.

(source)Did you recently move to the Jacksonville area from South Florida or the northeastern United States? If you moved here in the last two years, Times-Union reporter Deirdre Conner would like to hear your story. Contact her at deirdre.conner@jacksonville.com or at (904) 359-4504.

When you’re still relatively new to the First Coast area, there is a great deal that you have to offer to others who haven’t yet made that choice; you’ll also find that there are others who want to hear it (which is great news, especially if you’ve been talking non stop about moving to the First Coast and your friends and family members are getting tired of the stories).

Take the time to share your experience – you’ll be glad that you did and you’re sure to be able to share the good news with others.

Making a Difference in Jacksonville

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

One of the greatest things about living on Florida’s First Coast in general and in Jacksonville in particular is the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others:

(source)The Florida Justice Association and the Jacksonville Justice Association are sponsoring a wine tasting that will raise money for “A Visit From St. Nicholas” — a literacy-focused organization that provides 8,000 area school children with backpacks filled with books and toys and a reading visit from Santa during Christmas. It’s Aug. 11 at the Grotto Wine and Tapas Bar from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

When you are looking for an opportunity to have an impact on the lives of others and you want to be able to have a great time in the process, participating in something that you will enjoy anyway is a great way to start; by participating in a wine tasting and knowing that you are helping to do more to create opportunities for those who need them, you can be sure that you’re not just getting out for a great evening, but also that you are doing something great for your community.

Want a Break from the Beach?

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Jacksonville beaches are renowned and gorgeous. Many people who visit or live there spend hours and hours, relaxing in the sun and swimming in the crystal blue waters, watching the day go by slowly and easily. But every once in a while, you want to take a walk on a different path. That’s when That’s when the University of North Florida Recreational Trails come into play.

With over 12 miles of lush, gorgeous greenery to play in, you take a break from the beach and check out Florida’s one-of-a-kind flora and fauna. The green overhead protects you from the sunlight, if you just want to take a shaded stroll. Or perhaps you’re a sporty, adventurous type? Well, there’s plenty of running trails to be had, including a specialized exercise course to match your physical needs.

When you check out the Recreational Trails, you also get in touch with and recognize the importance of the distinctive nature of North Florida. Take a look at their mission statement:

We support University objectives by offering experiences that cultivate awareness of the natural world.

So support an environmentally sound project meant to enhance your appreciation of the Floridian natural world. Sit down, look around, breathe in the oxygenated air, have a picnic, check out the distinctive wildlife, do some fishing, read or stroll in silence. The beaches of Jacksonville are lovely, no doubt. But with North Florida, there’s more than meets the eye. And sometimes, a break from the direct sun is just the ticket for an interesting change of pace!

Atlantic Beach – A Special Floridian Gem

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

If you do a Google search for Atlantic Beach in North Florida, you’ll see the rave reviews that abound:

This is the best beach I’ve been to. The location is great – there’s many hotels within walking or short driving distance. Parking is free and very close to the many beach entrances. Lifeguards are always there and attentive but are spread apart so they don’t bother you unless you’re in danger.

And that’s just the beginning. Atlantic Beach is a great, little surfing beach for instance. And if you’re a surfer, you’ll know that finding good surf in Florida isn’t always the easiest feat! Atlantic Beach actually gets some decent waves, for the surfers amidst you!

It’s a family-oriented beach as well, so you have the amenities that help when you have a crew in tow, such as ice cream parlors, public restrooms, cafes and stop-and-go places to eat. The beach areas are varied so you and your gang can pick out a more remote, dry sandy area or a packed, cool sand lot closer to the water.

Nothing is more relaxing than strolling along Atlantic Beach and picking up some shells and rocks that are distinctive and wondrous. Gather them up, pick out your favorites and leave the rest. Use them as decor at your Floridian home or return them back to the waters.

So during your next stay in Florida, what are you going to do? Check out the one and only Atlantic Beach. You’ll be grateful that you did. It’s a genuinely Floridian experience!

* Sweating is good! Sweating is the body’s natural way of detoxing. In a humid atmosphere like Jacksonville, you’re body sweats out the toxins and leaves you feeling healthier overall.

Many people report how good they feel when visiting Florida. The secret? The sun and the humidity – a natural way to rejuvenate your body in mind. Coffee, Cars and Creating Friendships in Jacksonville, Florida

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

There are people who take things seriously: they look play hard, they care about connecting with others, they enjoy getting outside. In Jacksonville, these passions tend to extend as well into coffee and cars:

Car enthusiasts and AutomotiveAddicts.com is proud to announce our first ever Jacksonville Florida Cars and Coffee meet. This is a car gathering for all automotive enthusiasts that are in the Jacksonville, FL and surrounding areas. We know that Jacksonville has a strong presence of exotic, sports, classic and GT cars and it is time that we all came out to an enjoyable automotive gathering to mingle amongst local automotive enthusiasts.

If you got a love of GTs, of classic cars, of sports cars and those cars that most people don’t get to see everyday, why not make an effort to get together? It never hurts to meet up with more folks who share your interests and, well, the Starbucks at St. John’s Town Center is not all that hard to get to.

Come together, grab a coffee – or even a bottle of water – and take the time to have a great conversation about cars and the places to get them, to get supplies to make upgrades and other information that you’ll be able to use.
